18th June 1958: Sam leaps into the body of Leon Randolph Stiles, an escaped serial killer holding single mother Carol Pruitt and her daughter Becky hostage in their home. Meanwhile, at Project Quantum Leap in 1999, Al finds himself staring down the barrel of a gun held by the murderous Stiles, who now inhabits Sam’s body in the Waiting Room; ordering Al to let him into the rest of the base, Stiles takes Gushi’s car keys and then drives off to fulfil his obsession for killing prostitutes. When Al contacts Sam to break the news of Stiles’ escape, the house is suddenly surrounded by police; Al informs Sam that during his jail break Stiles killed three police deputies and the daughter of Sherriff Hoyt – and the Sherriff is destined to shoot Stiles out of revenge. While Sam stalls for time trying to convince Hoyt that he is capable of killing his hostages, Al sets out to find Stiles, knowing that unless he can capture the killer alive, Sam will never be able to return home. Taking over as Sam’s holographic advisor Gushi reports that history has now changed: Stiles will still die, but now Becky will be killed in the crossfire. In desperation Sam tries to win his hostages over by telling them all about Project Quantum Leap – but his story just serves to convince them that Stiles is completely insane…
